A Christmas or New Year´s Engagement – Ideas for HIM
Hey guys, looking for ideas to make your Christmas or New Years Engagement special!
This one is for you! I know most of my readers are women but maybe you´ve just come across this post or she COINCIDENTALLY 😉 left it open on her computer!
Whatever it may be this post is for you guys out there, thinking about how and when to propose.
With Christmas coming up and New Years right after that is a wonderful opportunity to make this special season even more special so I thought it would be a good idea to help you out with a few ideas.
So first, here’s a little story (but feel free to jump to the ideas down below!):
She opened her eyes and instantly felt the cold winter morning breeze on her face. The window was slightly open and she was able to see the snow that had fallen over night and was now sparkling in the sun. As she stretched, the door open and in came her boyfriend, carrying a tray. „I made breakfast for you!“ he said with a smile on his face! She looked into his blue eyes and was struck by thankfullness for that special man in her life. „You are the sweetest!“ she replied and sat up so she could enjoy the cup of her favorite tea he had made. While he gave her a backrub and soft kisses on her shoulder she ate the fruit salad he had made wondering why there was an extra tangerine sitting on the tray. When she took it she noticed that it had a little opening on the top. „I cut it open for you so you can peel it better!“ He must have noticed her puzzled look. She peeled it and as she started to pull the tangerine apart she noticed it. There was a ring inside! Her heart started racing. Her boyfriend took it from her and while she was still processing what was happening he already went down on one knee right next to the bed: „When I first saw you in that café with your friend I knew I wanted to marry you. Your wild soul, beauty and creativity are so special. I want to spend the rest of my life making you happy! Will you be my wife?“ She jumped up and hugged him tight: „YES,“ she whispered with tears in her eyes, „I will!“
Now let’s jump in and help you come up with a unique proposal! All ideas work for any other day, too, you can just use my ideas as a basic and then add individual elements from there.
Idea 1: Propose on a winter walk through the forest. Either spontaneously drop down on one knee or lead her to a place that you prepared beforehand. That can be a picknick site or a hut, or candles standing in the shape of a heart on a field… The possibilites are endless. You could also do that in the late afternoon when it starts to get dark so the candles have a bigger effect.
Idea 2: Christmas Morning or the First Morning of the New Year with breakfast in bed (see above), or after you lured her into the dining room where you´ve prepared something.
Idea 3: After the Christmas dinner when everyone is sitting together in the living room. Maybe tell a few people beforehand and hand them out confetti bombs so once she says YES they can jump in and shower you with confetti. (Although: If you do it that way, the moment is shared with other people and won´t truly be yours alone! Make sure she want´s that kind of proposal beforehand!)
Idea 4: Take her some place special. Maybe where you had your first date, or Europa Park with all the Christmas lights, the Christmas market in town… However: You won´t be alone there (See Idea 3).
Idea 5: Right at midnight on New Years Eve when the fireworks are going off! That has a huge effect and is very romantic!
Whatever you decide to do, make sure it is unique! This is the one time you´re gonna be asking her this and she deserves to know that you have given this some proper thought! 😉
Ways to make an engagement unique for example are your favorite song or the song you danced together for the first time (that also works on a winter walk, just let play it via your phone), lighting her favorite scented candle, making her her favorite tea, putting the ring in a box inbetween marshmallows if she loves those or have a box of roses (or her favorite flowers) delivered and prep them with the ring before you give them to her. You can also think of things that are special to both of you as a couple and including them in the proposal.
And as your words go: You will most probably be nervous and forget half of what you wanted to say. That is totally okay! Make it short and sweet but still include one or two things that give it a personal touch, like when you first saw her or what it is about her that makes you so happy!
And then you should be good to go! Make this Season truly special!
